First and Last

Nate's very last day of active duty military status fell on the first day of Football season.  It seems appropriate that he would get to enjoy one of his favorite activities on the day he says goodbye to one of his favorite things (we also squeezed in a pre-game trip to Rosas to celebrate)...

When I mention to people outside of Texas that my dad is a high school football coach I'm usually met with the same reaction, "I've heard Football is BIG in Texas."  There may never have been a more true statement than that.  Football isn't just BIG in Texas, it's a culture all its own...

I love Friday night football.  True it can still be a bit hot for those first few weeks but football season means that fall is just around the corner.  There is also a notable buzz that comes with the very first game...

You can feel it in the stands.  The questions (both said and unsaid)...

There's small town drama, rumors flying and the one thing on everybody's mind...will they be any good this year?

And then they score, their very first touchdown of the season, and hope is born in the form of a smile on the faces in the crowd.  It's as if you can see their thoughts, "Maybe this will be the year..."

I can't imagine the pressure that comes with standing on that sideline but my dad thrives there...

For him it's home sweet home...

And if a touchdown brings hope a win leaves everyone with a whole week to imagine the possibilities of what the year ahead might hold.  And win they did...

Way to go Pops...

There's no where else we'd rather be on a Friday night...

The real deal is so much better than the movie!
