Viva Fiesta!

This past weekend we participated in our very first Fiesta events! Fiesta is over a week of celebrating that goes on here in San Antonio (what exactly we are celebrating, well, I still haven't quite figured that out)! We were lucky enough to get to hang out with our sweet friends Cayce and Joel, and thanks to Cayce's generous parents Mike and Lil we had the best seats in the city, literally....

We spent Friday afternoon and Saturday evening in their beautiful hotel suite in downtown. There were floor to ceiling windows which gave us the perfect spot for taking in the parades (the air conditioning and the company were awesome too)...

The floats were impressive and so were these crazy fiesta hats...

We were surrounded by our kids, who squealed at every new float, and beautiful babies of course...

Emme enjoyed hanging out with her daddy...

He made sure she caught some of the action...

It was a great afternoon for some family time (I'm still soaking up any chance we get to do stuff with Nate)...

The next morning we were off to the "Pooch Parade", which is just that! Lot's of dogs, many of them dressed up, paraded down the street. This was right up Carter's alley and she loved it...

We were accompanied by our favorite San Antonio pooches....

We like their mom a lot too...

Dogs definitely bring out the best in people...

And put a smile on your face...

Later that afternoon Carter was feeling full of the "Fiesta Spirit" before we headed to largest night parade Flambeau....

It was a fun filled weekend and a memorable First Fiesta experience! We'll be looking forward to next year...

Monday Carter Edition #59~Happy Hour

Monday Carter and I headed to Happy Hour this afternoon (Happy Hour for stay at home moms that is). With Emme happily snoozing in the backseat it was a date just the two of us...

Considering the fact that the temperature in Whidbey rarely gets above 85 Carter isn't quite used to the Texas heat...

I hate to tell her it's only going to get hotter...

So we'll keep the heat a secret for now...

Speaking of secrets Sonic has one of their own it's in the...

Dear Sonic,

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship....

Lots of Love,

Carter and her Hot (as in sweaty) Momma

Dear Aunt Kim,

Thank you for taking me on a date to the movie...

Thank you for the Twizzlers, the cheesy popcorn, the Rootbeer and the opportunity to learn "How to Train a Dragon". But most of all...thank you for making me feel special, loved and important. I'm pretty crazy about you. XOXO, Carter.

Color Me Happy

I love color...

I guess you could say it inspires the creative spirit in me...

Bright pops of orange, yellow, red, blue and green greet me when I walk in our home...

I'm drawn to simplicity but am also drawn to the cheer that color brings. For me color in our nest hits a bulls eye...

It just makes me happy. But lately the color outside is what has been catching my eye. Spring is such a fun word, full of bounce and pep. So it comes as no surprise that Spring brings a treat for the eyes. Spring is what sent Carter and I, along with my mom, in search of some pops of color for our garden....

An empty pot quickly became full...

These are a few of my favorite "outdoor" things...

The way my new lime green hose, coral water spicket, and this blue flower look together make me just a little happier every time I turn the water on...

These lemons have been showing up on my door every spring for the past five years, I just never get tired of them...

But of course the tastiest colors of Spring are the ones you can eat...

Hope your Spring is off to a colorful start!

Beauty in Blue

The tulips are once again blooming in Washington. No, I'm not there, but I've been jealously eyeing my friends photos for the past couple of weeks. I think this is the first time I've found myself really missing Washington. The beauty of miles and miles of rainbow covered flowers is beyond words...

Wildflowers are blooming across Texas too, but it just isn't the same. I guess you could say I've been a bit of a bluebonnet snob lately. I see them, I think to myself, "sure, they're pretty" ,but secretly my heart says, "Nothing can compare to the land of Oz"...

But suddenly the bluebonnets have begun growing on me. I see the fields blooming a beautiful shade of "Liberty Blue" (the Pantone Color I found most closely matched) and I begin to think maybe, just maybe there is something to this whole bluebonnet thing...

So Sunday afternoon we were in need of a little outing. Chicks in tow I went out in search of some flowers worthy of a photo. I was a little leery of hanging out on the side of the highway with my little munchkins so we found something off the beaten path. My goal was to take some photos of the girls with the flowers, not the flowers with the girls...

Carter was feeling enthusiastic about having her picture made...

What a difference a cheerful heart makes...

I'm not sure I'll ever attempt photos of her when she's not "in the mood" again...

It made for a delightful afternoon...

One where little fingers eagerly picked flowers for Mama...

Carter is bringing me little bouquets more and more often these days, no garden is safe...

It makes my heart happy to receive her little expression of love (photo by Carter)...

She teaches me so much about life, about breathing in the moment...

About sitting and enjoying the sunshine...

These girls are my true definition of happiness...

Of Joy...

Emerson was quite content under a canopy of bluebonnets...

It was one of those afternoons I'll really remember...

Just the three of us...

Making a memory...

And being reminded that God's beauty is all around us...

Just waiting for us to acknowledge and take it all in...

So, for the beauty that is all around me...

I say out loud...

I am truly grateful.
